Ms. P. Coleman
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
Registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (B.P.C.)
It may feel a daunting task when deciding who to see as you’re contemplating psychotherapy. I hope this helps to inform you a little further.
Psychotherapy is a particular kind of conversation between two people. My job is to pay close attention to this dialogue by attending to everything that is said between us. This includes those things which may remain out of your awareness and yet are present and which powerfully influence your emotional life. In this way I hope to deepen your understanding about yourself and your feelings influenced by both conscious and unconscious processes.
The central component of this conversation will be to examine the many ways in which you relate. This is particularly pertinent with those you are closest to. The unique opportunity we have is to pay particular attention to how you relate to me. This gives us a window into the various ways you formulate ideas and perceptions both about yourself and about others. In summary I hope to increase your understanding and insight as well as help you explore your ‘internal world’ and as a consequence your life generally.
In order to work with individuals I completed an intensive clinical training over many years. This led to eventual registration with the British Psychoanalytic Council, whose register you can find on the internet including my professional entry. The B.P.C. has a rigorous code of ethics which I abide by. This professional code includes being mindful of confidentiality and of maintaining safe practice. I am committed to maintaining a non discriminatory practice in the widest sense. During my working life I have worked with individuals who are struggling in a range of different ways. This has been both within the NHS and also in private practice. Working privately allows the opportunity for open ended therapy. Unlike the NHS which is highly valuable but has increasingly limited resources, there is the possibility of continuing for as long as you need to do so. My psychoanalytic training allows for more intensive therapy when that is helpful. While you are likely to begin coming once a week this may well increase to more frequent sessions as time progresses if we both feel this is something you could benefit from.
I would suggest we meet in the first instance for a consultation. This initial meeting will provide an opportunity for us both to think together about whether I can be of help.
Qualifications and training:
Affiliations and Memberships:
Rates:
Initial consultation : £150
Individual sessions dependent on how many sessions per week
Range : £60 - £100
Contact:
You are welcome to make initial contact by phone or by email. I will then suggest we speak on the phone. This gives us the opportunity to introduce ourselves and for you to tell me a little about yourself.
