Ms. P. Coleman.
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
It may feel a daunting task when deciding who to see as you’re contemplating psychotherapy. I hope this helps to inform you further.
Psychotherapy is a particular kind of conversation between two people. My job is to pay close attention to this dialogue. I do so by attending to those things which remain out of your awareness and yet remain present and which powerfully influence your emotional life. In this way I hope to deepen your understanding about yourself and your feelings.
The central component of this conversation between us will be to closely examine the many ways in which you relate. This gives us a window into the ways you formulate ideas and perceptions about yourself as well as others, particularly within your closest relationships and others that are significant in your life. In summary I hope to increase your understanding and help you explore your ‘internal world’ and therefore your life generally.
In order to work with individuals I completed an intensive training over many years leading to registration with the British Psychoanalytic Council. The B.P.C. has a rigorous code of ethics which I abide by. This includes being mindful of confidentiality at all times as well as a non discriminatory practice in the widest sense.
I have worked for over two decades with individuals who are struggling in a whole range of different ways. This has been both within the N.H.S. and also in private practice. Working privately allows the opportunity for open ended therapy. Unlike the NHS which is highly valuable but has finite resources, there is the possibility of continuing for as long as you need to do so. My psychoanalytic training allows for more intensive therapy when that is helpful so that you are likely to begin coming once a week but this can increase to more frequent sessions if we both feel this is something you need.
I would suggest we meet in the first instance for a consultation. This initial meeting will provide an opportunity for us both to think together about whether I can help you and how to decide what you feel is in your best interests and how to proceed with this.
You are welcome to make initial contact by phone or email.
