Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Cheryl Walters
Mrs. Walters trained in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy at WPF Kensington and undertook psychosexual and marital training at UMDS (Guys Hospital). She has worked in Private Practice since 1994 and is an approved Training Therapist for WPF Therapy.
From 1995 to 2003 she was first Counselling Co-ordinator at the National Stepfamily Association then Head of Policy and Research at Parentline Plus. As a leading professional in the field of parenting she has co-written a book for stepparents and contributed to many radio, television, magazine and newspaper interviews.
Mrs. Walters believes that for many people gaining insight and understanding can be the key to managing challenging behaviours: anxiety; depression; feelings of loss; anger; sadness; frustration; emotional distress and relationship difficulties. As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist Mrs. Walters draws on psychoanalysis and psychodynamics as a way of understanding the human personality, including the way individuals interact with each other. She takes note of the unconscious mind as well as conscious attitudes as this aids the resolution of unconscious conflicts allowing for the development of a person’s full potential.
The psychotherapeutic relationship is different from social relationships in that it is limited to the psychotherapy sessions. Mrs. Walters provides a confidential, safe and supportive space in which to explore past and present feelings, leading to understanding and insight of the meaning and influence they may have on past, current and future relationships and events.
