Couple Counselling and Psychosexual Therapy with Charlotte
I am a qualified, accredited & experienced psychosexual therapist & couples counsellor. I specialise in couple relationships, working with individuals & couples with relationship difficulties or sexual problems, offering long-term, open ended as well as short-term counselling. My style of work is a blend of psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy. Sessions are for 50 minutes, once a week.
My practice promotes equality, diversion and inclusion.
Often couples feel “stuck” and end up blaming one another, consumed with emotions such as jealousy, anger and resentment. These feelings can be overwhelming; couples counselling can offer a neutral, safe space to explore what is beneath those feelings, helping to build mutual respect and understanding.
Life-changing events can have a profound effect on your relationship, such as starting a family, redundancy, ill health, children leaving home, bereavement, or an affair. Couples counselling offers a non-judgemental environment, where difficult conversations can be facilitated.
Counselling can help you to become more aware of certain aspects of yourself and your relationships and to understand why you might repeat certain patterns of behaviour. This can enable positive shifts to take place, particularly in the way you relate to others.
Psychosexual therapy maybe what is needed if you are experiencing sexual problems such as loss of desire, difficulty with orgasm, painful sex, erectile difficulties, early or delayed ejaculation, sexual phobias, body-image issues or sexual compulsivity.
Psychosexual therapy is basically another name for sex therapy, but does not treat sexual problems in isolation. Other contextual factors are taken into account such as personal and relationship histories and acknowledging the effect emotions have over bodily and sexual functioning.
Psychosexual therapy usually involves a tailored programme of behavioural exercises for you to do between sessions, taking into account any specific individual, cultural and religious beliefs.
Sometimes clients find an enormous weight has been lifted from their shoulders when they are given the space to practise talking about sex, having shame and taboos associated with it. Psychosexual therapy offers such a non-judgemental, safe space.
